Two Non-invasive Techniques for the Study of the Surface of Cultural Heritage Objects: Optical Measurement of Micro-roughness and Backscattering Spectro-colorimetry

چکیده
THE GONIO-SPECTROCOLOR METER An instrument dedicated to colour measurement, notably on varnished paintings, was developed at the C2RMF, a dozen years ago, at the initiative of Michel Menu, with the help of Alain Chiron and Françoise Viénnot from the Photobiology Laboratory of the MNHN[1]. One of the objectives was to reduce the influence of specular scattering due to the protective varnish. The solution of this problem relies on the use of backscattering mode. The principle is to use for colour measurement the fraction of scattered light which follows the same path as the incident light. For practical reasons, we use an angle of 22° in our set-up. Since the first tests, much progress has been made and today, on the basis of our results, this backscattering geometry and other functionalities are offered on commercial instruments such as those from STIL. Examples chosen to illustrate this technique were accomplished with the last prototype.

متن کاملApplication of Scanning Electron and Atomic Force Mode Microscopy on inscription from Proto-Elamite period in Tappeh Sofalin
The study of cultural heritage artifacts and the research of a protection and restoration intervention create with - and are often limited to - a complete characterization of their surface. This is not only factual for museum objects, but also for archaeological artifacts, because the object as it was discovered may contain precious unknown information that could be lost by too much aggressive ...
متن کاملDiscrimination of Geological Top-Formations by their Morphology through SAR Images and via Fractal Geometry implementation in IEM Backscattering Model(Case Study: Zagros Thrust Belt)
Morphological discrimination of geological top-formations is the supplemental procedure of geological mapping; so in situ measurements to register geomorphological data are unavoidable; though due to the impassable and fault cliffs field operations to visit all areas within a geological map is almost impossible. Microwave or radar remote sensing, via synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images is cap...
متن کاملFabrication and Characterization of the Fiber Optical Taper for a Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensor
For a fiber optical surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor a short part of its cladding should be removed to coat a thin layer of a metal. Usually this is problematic when an optical fiber with small core diameter is used. In this paper, a new method using µliter droplet of the HF acid for short fiber optical taper fabrication is reported. Using this method in a multi-mode optical fiber w...
